Targa Newfoundland - Leg 5

Another Porsche has taken over the top spot on the Targa Newfoundland rankings.

As of the end of Leg 4 last night, the blue Porsche #510 was still in first place overall, but they picked up some serious penalty time in Stage 5-2 in Petite Forte this morning, dropping them to eighth overall by noon.

This allowed the green 1965 Porsche 911 (#304), driven by Michael Stoschek (Germany) and Philipp Spaeth (USA), to move into first overall by midday today.

The STILLEN GT-R is still in the number one spot in the Modern division, which of course also puts it in first place in its category and class.

Have to wait for the results of the rest of today's stages to see who will come out on top.

Targa Car of the Day

Here are some photos of car number 510, a 1976 Porsche Carrera driven by Glen Clarke of Ontario, with co-driver Andy Proudfoot of Gander. Clarke drove to a first-place-overall finish in Targa Newfoundland 2006.

Apparently Clarke originally bought this car on eBay for $300! I guess they had a lot of work to do to get the Porsche race-ready.

#510 is the only car with a perfect record so far at Targa Newfoundland 2009 (having finished three days of racing without receiving a single penalty) and currently holds first place overall.

I'm saying this is a Mirage based upon the tailpipes, but I'm not sure. Could be a custom model.
